Eaton inaugurates its new production site in Casablanca

The production unit in Morocco includes electronics and green technology centres of excellence.

Eaton, a multinational power management company, inaugurated on 6 September 2016 its new plant specialised in the manufacturing of energy storage battery packs and systems in the Casablanca Midparc Free Zone.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy, Ms Revathi Advaithi, Chief Operating Officer, Electrical Sector, Eaton and Mr Frank Campbell, President, Corporate and Electrical Sector, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Eaton’s industrial complex in MidParc is destined to become a major world-class plant for the manufacturing of energy storage battery packs and systems as well as a centre of excellence in electronics. During the five coming years, the plant will supply the European, African and Middle East markets with a first delivery planned by the end of the current year. Covering an area of more than 13,000 square metres, the facility has required an investment of $12 million and will employ 550 workers.

On this occasion, Minister Elalamy welcomed the start of operations at the new site of the world's leader in electrical and hydraulic components and systems, emphasizing that "Morocco is proud to host a production site of a company that ranks in the top 20 of energy storage system manufacturers in the world” and that this project “is very much in keeping with the guidelines of our industrial strategy as the launching of the site will strengthen local value chains and reinforce ecosystems dynamics through the building of a strong supplier base”.

Ms Revathi Advaithi noted on her part that "Eaton invested in Morocco because of its skilled workforce, the stability of its economy and the proximity to key European customers. There is also a strong correlation between the group’s objective of increasing local procurement and those of the Industrial Acceleration Plan, which helps foster a growing ecosystem of local suppliers that will be essential to ensure the long term viability of our manufacturing operations in the country,"

Furthermore, with the ambition of making the Midparc site a regional centre of excellence in electronics, Eaton has established a partnership with the Moroccan Aerospace Institute (IMA) to create a training centre where future employees of the group will be able to improve their skills through a seven-week training course. The factory also has a training centre for varied assembly work and another specialised in UPS for the region.

It is worth noting that Eaton’s goal is to become a centre of excellence in green technologies and a leader in energy storage systems for the European, African and Middle Eastern markets. Its investment has obtained validation as a “COP22 labelled project”.
